A Day Without Latinos

Nine percent of Utah’s populace is Latino or Hispanic.â And, at any rate 30% of the families of Utah have a Latino or Hispanic individual present, whether or not the migrant is living as a family member or filling in as a servant in the family unit (Overview, 2004).â Indeed, the Latinos are persevering people. They are concentrating with other racial gatherings in schools and universities, and albeit a large number of them feel that they are oppressed, they have just demonstrated themselves to be â€Å"a developing and creating monetary force base† (Warner, 2004).â This implies the Latinos are somewhat essential to the economy of Utah today. They are particularly spoken to in the administration industry.â Hotels, cafés, the agrarian business, development and recreation †an assortment of organizations are utilizing the assistance of Latinos.â What is more, Latinos are paid not exactly different laborers are on average.â For each 72 pennies given to a Lati no for their work, an individual from another racial gathering gets a dollar (Media). Now if all Latinos were to leave Utah for a day, the economy would undoubtedly back off and experience loss.â There would be innumerable non-attendants in the work environment, school participation would fall, and those that victimize the Latinos would inhale a murmur of relief.â Still, the economy would endure the worst part of the flight of the Latinos. In request to deliver the merchandise and offer the types of assistance that the Latinos were formerly helping organizations to create and to give, organizations would need to enlist for a day laborers that would charge more than the Latinos do.â Budgets would need to be changed, as organizations face an ascent in their expenditures. Moreover, organizations may choose to cut the gracefully of their items as a result of the expansion in expenditures.â It might likewise be that organizations would not discover substitutes for the Latinos throug h the day.â Hence, organizations would need to back off if not close down for the day.â In the since quite a while ago run, the economy of Utah would be believed to have been influenced by the takeoff of the Latinos for a day.â â â â Utah, similar to every other province of America, blossoms with diversity.â As a self evident reality, there is no state in America where decent variety doesn't hold an extraordinary spot in the cultural structure.People who are living with the Latinos, and those that review with youthful Latinos in schools and universities would affirm that Latinos do increase the value of their specific groups. When Latino house cleaners in the home need to leave for a day, the moms of the youngsters for whom they had employed Latino house cleaners, would likewise need to leave their working environments so as to think about their kids without maids.â This, as well, would have an effect on the economy.â What is more, the worth that Latinos include as rel atives is known uniquely to the individuals from the families that Latinos occupy.A Latino wife or husband venturing out from home for a day may end up being an issue for the spouse.â And, when the impacts of the misfortunes are collected contemplating the whole society, it might become clear that Latinos are in reality an entwined piece of the cultural texture that can't be destroyed without contrary consequences. Those that victimize the Latinos of Utah may inhale a moan of alleviation without the Latinos.â Still, when the consequences for the economy are brought into full view, the individuals that oppressed the Latinos would likewise be believed to have been influenced by the loss.Latinos are today likened to a motor in a manufacturing plant that is impossible away with in spite of the fact that there are numerous different motors in a similar production line playing out similar sorts of errands in an alternate way.â Seeing that the primary motor is available is proof enoug h that the motor is critical to the factory.â Similarly, Utah can't envision itself without Latinos at present. This racial gathering has become a fundamental piece of the lives of individuals who possess Utah, notwithstanding their livelihood.â Gladys Gonzales, the supervisor and distributer of Mundo Hispano, clarifies this essentialness along these lines: â€Å"We are carrying collaboration to this state†¦ We are diligent employees with an enterprising soul.  We need to contribute decidedly to this state and this country† (Warner). It is this inspirational disposition that has permitted the Latinos to be genuinely fruitful in Utah, regardless of the issues that they may look in their own or open lives.  Furthermore, the Latinos are relied upon to keep enhancing the general public and the economy of the state.â Indeed, if the Latinos were to leave Utah for a day, they will be remembered fondly by their companions, managers, and clients in Utah.Even those that we re disappointed with the nearness of the Latinos in Utah would confront a misfortune as their preferred eateries are shut down, and their organizations face an expansion in expenditures.â Perhaps for such individuals, a day without Latinos would fill in as a wake up call.â The Latinos would be tensely anticipated back in Utah.ReferencesMedia Contacts. â€Å"U of U Researcher Reports Latino Immigrants’ Experience in Utah to be Mixed.† How can I communicate this in a concise and memorable way? What information do I need to know about the contact to be prepared to email/call him or her? What do I want from this contact? What is the goal of my conversation? What can I offer the contact? (Remember: networking is a two-way street!) Evaluation Of The Lincoln Memorial - 944 Words

An Evaluation of the Lincoln Memorial in the context of America’s Historiography The end of Abraham Lincoln’s term as president mark the end of the first part of American history. Past the end of the American Revolution, America could turn from the worries of wartime to the betterment of its society, creation of a government, and establishment of its national identity. During America’s infancy, America was able to instate a stable and thriving economy, healthy interstate relations, and a legitimate and efficient national government. Most of the initial problems presented were solved early on and without much long term cost, except for the problem of slavery, which even the founders anticipated to die very slowly. Lincoln ushered the country through slavery s final death throes, which unfortunately included America’s Civil War. However, with Lincoln’s guidance, the country made it through in one piece, and finally transitioned into a whole new era of growth and prosperity. For this reason, the government of the United States wished to honour the progress of America as a nation, as well as the deeds committed by Lincoln in order to assist America through one of its darkest nights. So, the Lincoln Memorial was built to serve this purpose. Because of the great significance the statue held for the country, many were wary that the monument might set in stone a misinformed interpretation of Lincoln’s work and deeds, which would teach later generations and form future educationShow MoreRelatedMartin Luther King Jr: I Have a Dream Speech Critique Essay1251 Words   |  6 PagesUniversity Graduate Dr, Martin Luther King stood behind a podium. Relationship Between Efficiency Wage Theory and Performance

Question: Discuss about the Relationship Between Efficiency Wage Theory and Performance. Answer: Introduction The paper examines the relationship between efficiency pay and performance and provide solutions that should be adopted by Australia to solve wage problems. The study focuses on the efficiency wages as well as the subjective performance in order to motivate workers in Australian labor market setting (Agell Bennmarker, 2007). The paper deeply reveals how turnover cost can be used to determine the optimal wage contract which in most cases is the integration of subjective performance and efficiency wages. According to various studies examined, it is quite evident that when Australian labor market is experiencing high turnover costs they tend to use more subjective pay as well as less efficiency wages. When the Australian market is experiencing such turnovers wage payment is always lower and employment equilibrium rises higher than normal. The paper is organized into two parts in which part one of the content describes efficiency wage theories and various models making it up. It further lay strong foundations on the theory implications of the theory and its models in labor market (Agell Lundborg, 2013). The second part of the discussion analyses various empirical evidence and end with a conclusion drawn efficiency wage models and sub models. Efficiency wage theory The efficiency wage theory according to various sources indicates that the productivity of an employee in every organization is directly dependent on the provided wages. The theory further elucidates some mechanisms which provide elaborations on the relationship between efficiency wage and performance. Efficiency wage theory also provides various mechanisms known as models which explain the dependence of wages and performance. Efficiency wage theory therefore from the explanations maintains that firms in Australia should pay their employees a wage that is above normal rate prevailing in the labor market. According to the economic literature, the theory only applies in a market clearing wage where labor supply is at the normal rate with labor demand. In such market as revealed by various economists, labor supply proceeding the normal rate leads to unemployment while excess labor demand by firms leads to labor insufficiency. According to normal economics a clearing market is at an equilibrium with natural unemployment. Since the market is at equilibrium firm owners and managers therefore apply efficiency wage theory in order to increases performance or labor productivity (Akerlof Yellen, 2016). Application of efficiency wage theory as already mentioned in the introduction above increases worker productivity and reduces turnover. The main idea behind efficiency wage is to increase labor productivity. The idea can be confirmed with the application of basic economics as discussed during the lessons. The relationship between efficiency wage and performance can be justified in a simple supply demand curve. As normal demand supply curve illustrates higher supply at higher prices so as the higher the wage the higher the productivity of an employee (Campbell Kamlani, 2007). In a normal life situation, an employee of a given organization will always tend to put on more effort at higher compensation. For instance, a worker being paid a higher wage rate will work longer hours compared to a worker being paid at the normal labor market prices. A worker which is being given a compensation higher than the normal will also put more effort and worker harder. On the other hand, an employee being given less payments will tend to work as per the pay (Campbell Kamlani, 2007). The graph below illustrates the idea behind the higher you work the higher one gets paid. The graph has organized inform of a labor supply curve to indicate how efficiency wage relates to performance. The x axis indicates labor in hours while the Y axis indicates wage offered. The above graph indicates the effect of price increase on the willingness an employee is willing to work. With an increase of the wage from the minimum wage of $100 to $200 for every five hours of work done, an employee is willing to add extra three hours due to the increase in the pay. It is therefore evident from the above with higher compensation a worker will work harder therefore justifying the efficiency wage theory of the higher the wage the higher the productivity or performance Efficiency wage theory models The efficiency wage models give an assertion that labor productivity of employees in any given firm correlates positively with the amount of compensation they receive. This model can be explained through various theories or sub models. These theories give reasons as to why firms in Australia should continue applying the idea of efficiency wage. The first model explaining the reason why Australian firms should adopt efficiency wage theory is the shirking model. The theory of shirking models states that when an employee is being given a wage above the normal wage he or she becomes afraid of losing the job to another person since the cost of losing a job at higher wages is high. Workers therefore at higher compensations do not shirk and risk being relieved of their duties. Higher wages as a result of acts as an incentive in this case. Another reason why firms are advised to apply the theory of efficiency wage can be seen through the model known as the gift exchange model. In most of the occasions workers tend to view high wages as a gift from the employer firms. With this kind of perception, a higher percentage of workers show hard work as way of returning this gift to the employers. It is therefore clear that in the process of retuning the gift to the employers, the workers rate of performance increases. Workers will also work hard when they perceive their employer as fair. When employees are paid above the normal Australian job market pay rate they tend to view higher payment in terms of fairness therefore working harder. On the other hand, when workers are paid wages under the amount they view to be fair they will the same apply less efforts at work. This model is known as fair wage effort mode relating efficiency wage performance with fairness and performance. The relationship between efficiency wage and labor performance can also be explained through a turnover model as already mentioned (Krueger Summers, 2008). The turnover models explain that if efficiency wage theory is adopted in Australia firms will be saved from the cost of training new workers every time. This is because if workers are paid high wages there are low chances of employees leaving one firm to another or quitting their jobs thus no need for new workers as already employed workers maintain their jobs. Adverse selection model is another model supporting the theory of efficiency wage. This model states that when employees are compensated with a wage thats is above the prevailing job market equilibrium wage, attention of more workers are drawn towards the firm. In other word this theory explains that efficiency wages attract diverse skills enabling the firm to select workers from available bigger pool (Nickell, 2009). This always happens when more diverse workers are drawn to the gates of the well-paying firm. The firm therefore enjoy the advantage of selecting bets workers from the bigger labor pool. It is therefore important for firms in Australia to employ efficiency wage to enjoy better performance and high labor productivity. On the other hand, application of efficiency wage may result into several implications and consequences. Even though the efficiency wage theory has proved to have several advantages, it can also be viewed in another perspective (Layard, Nickell, Jackman, 2015). According to a research conducted on New York City taxi drivers, it was noticed that most of them left job after the payment. This kind of behavior indicates the disadvantage of efficiency wage theory. Drawing illustrations from the taxi drivers research in New York, it is evident that some employees may not show hard work after higher pay. Another implication of efficiency wage theory may be seen where the rate of cost of production does not much the profit. In a case where a firm is paying wages that is higher than the economic equilibrium (Wadhwani Wall, 2011). The higher payment is only worthy when the magnitude of employees productivity matches or actually higher than the cost of production. Another consequence of efficiency wage to the Australian economy may be unemployment. Application of efficiency wage always results into large labor queues at the gates of high paying firms resulting into involuntary unemployment (Nickell, 2009). Irrespective of many people looking for jobs as a result of high payment, firms tend to limit the number of employs in order to avoid accelerating cost of production. Efficiency wage therefore results into unemployment as mentioned since firms conduct rationing of employees in order to ensure that marginal cost of production is similar or higher that the productivity marginal. Part Two Empirical Evidence Various studies have been conducted concerning efficiency wage where some criticize the theory while others support it. The main problem of efficiency wage theory is mostly as a result of methodologies or alternative models used. There are several factors which play major roles as variables in the theory models which does not make sense. It close to impossible measuring abstract notions such as fairness and gratitude. Other factors which cannot be measured in the efficiency wage models includes effort as well as asymmetry information (Wadhwani, Wall, 2011). A lot of information concerning performance can be explained by other models better compared efficiency wage theory. The study conducted by various writers suggest the relevancy and effectiveness various models or theories used to explain efficiency theory. According to various studies, these models may have a different meaning in the real world. These discussions in the current study have been linked to above discussed models in relations to efficiency theory. Shirking model in real world situation The study conducted by George Borjas in support of shirking model conducted in a manufacturing industry in the United States of America can be criticized in the real world. The study indicated that some workers were laid off as a result of shirking. He indicated in his studies that the dismissal of workers from the company was as disciplinary action since they dismissed workers were shirking (Campbell Kamlani, 2007). In contrary to the study of George, other studies like that of Polachek and Siebet justify that most firms are reluctant firing shirking workers. Gift exchange model According to the study of Agell and Lunborg which gives assertion that efforts related to work hinges on a higher rate compared to several firms ability lay lethal economic related penalties. The idea behind this study was supported by several readers who responded to Campbell and Kamanis study (Akerlof Yellen, 2016). The model therefore cannot be justified in the normal world situation and does not explain psychological integration between managers of firms and workers. Most of the respondents to the study of Campbell study suggested that most relevant gift to employers than wages is the adverse labor selection. It is difficult in the normal world for employers to incur extra cost on wages as motivation as it may bring complications with the workers unions. The turnover model in relation to real world situation In the real world situation, employers always deduct training cost from employees compensation after they are employed (Agell Lundborg, 2013). Therefore, most of the employers will tend not lay much concern on training cost. Both literatures from the studies of Campbell and Kamlani as well as that of Agell and Lundborg provides the confirmation that most employers retain their employees based on human capital rather than training cost. Fair wage effort theory Most of the workers in the real world always view cuts laid on the salaries as unfair but not the less wage they receive. Drawing illustration from C-K it is justifiable that cut on salaries means a lot unfairness than low wages (Agell, Bennmarker, 2007). Moreover, it is unfair for employers to give more wages compared to labor output. Viewing the situation in another perspective, the study done by Lundborg and Agell substantiate the idea of fairness in relation to firms. Conclusion It evident from the part to of the study that most studies lay support on efficiency wage theory application. They also tend to pin point various unclear ideas behind efficiency wage theory in relation to performance. Furthermore, various sub-models indicates various problems as most of the variables cannot be closely observed. It is therefore evident that efficiency wage theory is polycausal rather than monocausal compared to unionization. It is therefore clear that in most cases the models cannot explain the relationship between wage and performance. Drawing conclusions from the current study the Australian state policies makers should closely view the implications and consequences of efficiency wage theory. Efficiency theory models and hypotheses can be considered to be non-satisfactory since several variables used are not observable thus policy makers should not bank in the theory. Elasticity and Demand for Tourism Products

Introduction Demand and supply are the foundation of any economic analysis as the interaction of the two forms a market.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Elasticity and Demand for Tourism Products specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The law of demand and supply works in the divergent ways in the sense that, for a normal good, when the prices of commodities changes, demand and supply will change in opposite direction holding other factors constant. This will depend on the nature of the goods as forces demand and supply will be dictated by the type of the products in question. For instance, demand or supply of some goods will respond more than changes in price as compared to others. This brings us to the concept of elasticity of goods. In addition, it is not only price that affects demand and supply of goods, there are other factors that would affect the market such as changes in technology, taste and preferen ces, favorable climatic conditions and many other factors (Barber 2010). This paper explores demand, supply and elasticity of tourism products in various conditions. Elasticity of tourism products Elasticity measures how the quantity demanded or supplied will change when there are changes in market conditions. Price elasticity of demand is a measure how the quantity demanded of a good change when the price of the commodity changes (Mankiw 2011). However, this measure of elasticity of demand of a commodity is subject to some inadequacies.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More First, it ignores the presence of other related goods in the market such as close substitutes and compliments as changes in prices or demand of these goods would affect the elasticity of the good in question. It also ignores the type of product in question since necessities and luxuries would have dif ferent elasticities. Demand for luxuries do not respond to changes in price. In addition, this measure overlooks time horizons. Goods tend to be more elastic over a longer period of time. Finally, elasticity depends on how well a market condition is defined (Moon 2013; Bade Parkin 2009). Goods will tend to be elastic in a more narrowly defined market. Various studies have been conducted to establish the nature of elasticity of demand for tourism products. The general result is that demand for tourism products is price inelastic, holding other factors constant. This can be attributed to the fact that tourism products are luxuries and their demand would not be responsive to changes in price. As pointed out earlier, the demand for tourism products stays strong despite high prices in the market. This would imply that demand for tourism products is perfectly inelastic; the price elasticity would be zero. The demand curve (DD1) will take a vertical shape as shown below. The supply curve (SS1) will take an upwards sloping curve, ceteris paribus, as shown below in figure 1.0. Figure 1.0: Demand and supply curve for tourism productsAdvertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Elasticity and Demand for Tourism Products specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Increase in demand of tourism products An increase in the demand for tourism products will make the demand curve to shift outwards to a new level say DD1 from the original level DD. This outwards shift of the demand curve would exert an upward force on prices, that is, from the original level P1 to the new level P2. In addition, the increase in prices would cause an outward movement (increase) along the supply curve, as shown in figure 1.1 below. This would imply that more tourism products would have to be supplied to meet the increased demand so as to maintain the market at equilibrium (Adil 2006; Arnold 2008). Figure 1.1: Demand and supply curve for t ourism products when demand increases From the graph below, it is evident that as demand for the product increases, the price of the product will increase. However, as price increases, the quantity demand will remain the same as shown below. Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Decline in supply A decline in the quantity supplied of the tourism products would cause an inward shift of the supply curve from SS1 to SS2. This shift would make prices to increase from P1 to P2. There would be no change in quantity demanded as can be seen in figure1. 2 below. This is because the demand for milk is not responsive to the changes in price. Figure 1.2: Demand and supply curve for tourism products when the quantity supplied decreases Changes in price of tourism products In the third scenario, assume that the price of tourism products increases, there will be an outward movement in both the supply and the demand curves as seen in figure 1.3 below, ceteris paribus. The quantity demanded would remain constant. However, the quantity supplied would increase say from Q1 to Q2 (Saada 2009; Henderson 2004). This creates a condition of disequilibrium in the market as quantity supplies exceeds the quantity demanded. Figure 1.3: Demand and supply curve for tourism products with an increase in price Thus, from the graph above, it is evident that the increase in price from P1 to P2 would cause a movement on the demand and supply curve. The quantity demanded will remain constant while quantity supplied will increase. The disequilibrium would cause the prices to fall thus restoring the equilibrium. Changes in price of tourism products A change in national income or household income of consumers increases the quantity of tourism products consumed. It is because there will be an increase in additional income available for consumption (Parkin 2007). The increase in income will cause an outward shift of the demand curve as shown below. Figure 1.4: Demand and supply curve for tourism products with an increase in income An increase in the amount of income causes the demand curve to shift from DD1 to DD2. This makes the quantity demanded to increase from Q1 to Q2. The price of the products will also increase from P1 to P2. Conclusion In summary, the concept of dem and and supply is the key to any economic analysis as demand and supply are the bricks of any equilibrium or market. It is not only prices that affect the market condition of a good. There are other factors such as price of related good, changes in technology among others. Goods can be classified as normal, inferior, necessities, and luxuries among others (Wessels 2006). These goods have different equilibrium conditions. In addition, analysis of goods in the market also depend on the responsiveness of the demand or supply of that commodity with respect to changes in the price of that good, price and demand of related goods and changes in other factors such as income. A market analysis of a commodity is achievable with one or two variables while others are held constant. The demand for tourism products does not change with changes in price. Thus, changes in prices would not affect the quantity demanded (Mankiw 2011). References Adil, J 2006, Supply and demand, Capstone Press, USA. Ar nold, R 2008, Economics, Cengage learning, USA. Healthcare in China

Healthcare in China Introduction China is one of the most populated countries whereby demographics shown that there were about 1.351 billion people in 2012. It was also estimated that Chineses people have a life expectancy of approximately 79 years and a population growth rate of 0.5 percent per annum (Hannum Park, 2010).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Healthcare in China specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The massive population, controlled growth rate, and high life expectancy evoke a lot of curiosity as to how the country manages its healthcare system. It also raises concerns relating to health status of the country’s large population which could be one of the major challenges when it comes to maintaining good health. This paper will thus analyze the healthcare of China in terms of the general system as well as public health. Summary of the Healthcare Health Indicators According to a research conducted in 2005, it was estimated that the population has a fertility rate of 1.8 children per woman (Hannum Park, 2010). It was also discovered that 25.3 newborns die during birth for every 1000 infants. At this point, the government committed about 37.2 percent of public funds and expenditure to health care. From an analytical perspective, it is evident that the government has been capable of maintaining high health standards in the country. This is based on the premises that such scores are attained in a country with a massive population as compared to countries like India. Healthcare System The availability, accessibility, and capabilities of healthcare professionals determine the efficiency of a health system. As of 2005, the country had 1.9 million physicians so that the overall rate was 1.5 professionals per 1000 patients. In 2012, OECD noted that this rate had been rising continuously leading to a current rate of 1.9. The number of hospital beds per 1000 people has experienced a peculiar trend. Th e rate was estimated at 3.6 in 2010 and increased to 3.8 in 2011 because of timely adjustment to the rising population by the government. This shows how responsiveness of the authorities towards healthcare facilities in accordance to the country’s population. The government has also invested heavily on the construction of hospital in rural and urban residences. It has emphasized on devolving the health care facilities to the marginalized areas so that most people have access to medical services. In fact, it was the government discovered that about a 100 million people who resided in rural areas did not have access to healthcare services.Advertising Looking for research paper on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This led to the conception of a program known as Healthcare System Reform that aimed to make the health services more affordable to them. The healthcare system is also characterized by t he combination of traditional and western medicine used for treatment. Strengths Professional Intellect China has been at the forefront of training highly qualified professionals, including nurses, doctors, and clinicians worldwide. In fact, students from European, African and Asian countries have been seeking to complete their medicinal courses in China. The proficiency of Chineses training system has not only become popular in the media commentaries, but has also proven its competence through practice where patients often travel for surgeries and other medical services. During training, students undergo a vigorous program that incorporates satisfactory theoretical understanding, practical work and research (Sorajjakool Carr, 2010). This implies that students have the capability of diagnosing complicated diseases and discovering new medicines and approaches to treatment. Therefore, the country uses locally available human resources to maintain high standards in their healthcare sy stems contrary to many countries that seek foreign professionals. In essence, using professionals from the country become less expensive, and enable the government to divert the additional funds, which could be needed for wages, to acquire other medical facilities. Use of Local Medicine Chinese has been producing traditional medicine for almost all illnesses and diagnoses required by patients. This implies that most of the medicines that are used in the country are produced locally while a little part of it is imported from European countries such as USA (Yuan Bieber, 2011). The local production of medicine supports availability of medicine to the growing population. Otherwise, if the country was relying on imported medicine only, it could experience a fatal deficit and economic depression when trying to satisfy the population’s medical needs. Besides the aspect of sufficiency, the traditional Chinese medicines have the capacity and quality to contain many diseases that pose a threat to human life. In fact, this could be the resultant of the low mortality rate, high life expectancy, and reduced maternal mortality among other indicators of health.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Healthcare in China specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Availability of Funds China has been rising economically to become the second-largest economy in the modern world. A research that was conducted by Gong (2012) showed that the country experienced 7.7 percent economic growth rate and attained a GDP of $9.8 trillion. These statistics show empirically that the economy is capable of providing fund for development of a highly efficient healthcare system. Weaknesses The greatest weakness that has challenged the Chinese healthcare is imbalance of health facilities between the villages and cities. It was noted that the Chinese government put a lot of emphasis on improving healthcare in developed urban areas a nd neglected the marginalized ones. The health care facilities were concentrated within the cities while people living in the countryside were segregated. The healthcare reform, which was started in 2005, and named as New Rural Co-operative Medical Care System set out to transform this condition so that those people could be considered. Although the transformation has taken root in terms of facilities, the rural people have exhibited conservative behaviors regarding sex education, smoking and contraception (Chan, 2009). This conservativeness has led to increasing cases of abortion because of resistance against sex education. In addition, a lot of men have conserved the smoking tradition leading to increased cases of throat cancer and deaths. Solutions to Weaknesses It is evident that the Chinese government has played its role holistically in regard to ensuring sufficient availability of medicine, accessibility of healthcare services, and qualified medical professionals. Additionally , it has paid attention to the healthcare imbalance between rural and urban areas by conceiving the NRCMCS program that seeks to decentralize facilities in marginalized areas (Saich Hu, 2012). However, the conservativeness of the public is the most challenging problem as far as healthcare is concerned. This implies that the government, medical practitioners, and scholars should concentrate on civic education to create awareness on issues of smoking and contraception. This could eliminate the danger of creating a healthcare system that is developed in terms of facilities while leaving the public behind. Conclusion It is evident that the Chinese healthcare has developed profoundly when it comes to facilities, professionals and intellect. However, the public has been conserved most of the traditional ideologies and behaviors that impede good health (Chan, 2009). As a result, the interested personnel and entities should pay attention to civic education to raise awareness about those is sues.Advertising Looking for research paper on health medicine? TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE ISSUES FOR A MOBILE APPLICATION TO SUPPORT Literature review

TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE ISSUES FOR A MOBILE APPLICATION TO SUPPORT CHRONIC DISEASE PATIENTS IN SAUDI ARABIA - Literature review Example However, the report indicated that in the next two decades non-communicable diseases in Africa would be the leading cause of deaths based on current projections. Apart from deaths, chronic diseases are also the major cause of disabilities among the population. Chronic diseases have further resulted to economic burden on the state government. In addition to non-communicable diseases, developing countries struggle with management of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria epidemics. Jeffreys (2011) argued that the prevalence of chronic diseases in these states does not displace the effects of the infectious diseases but enhances further the deteriorative effects of both diseases. This has led to overburdening of the medical budget, which directly affects medical healthcare services. Increased cases of chronic diseases have been closely linked with poorer healthcare services due to inadequacy of funds and strained medical staff that are often overworked and underpaid. In the end, continual prevalence of non-communicable diseases is likely to deter economic growth of developing countries. This is due to diversion of funds to health care systems as opposed to allocation of the funds to income generating projects. There also exits the burden of managing risk factors associated with chronic diseases. According to Defronzo (2004), chronic diseases can be easily controlled by minimization of associated risk factors. The main risk factors associated with non-communicable diseases include the following: tobacco use in any form, intake of high cholesterol, low fruit and vegetable diet, overweight and obesity, alcohol consumption and sedentary lifestyle. Studies by Centre for Disease Control (2014) indicated that 80% of heart diseases, stroke and Type 2 diabetes could be prevented and controlled by avoiding chronic risk factors.

Proto-oncogene in prevention of cancer is my focus biochemistry Research Proposal

Proto-oncogene in prevention of cancer is my focus biochemistry - Research Proposal Example A mutation at the proto-oncogenes results in the production of oncogenes that can cause the hereditary cancer syndrome. The mutation causes the change in the oncogene protein expression level and a change in the structure of the protein. If more than one oncogene is activated in the cell, then the abnormal cancerous cell production occurs. Proto-oncogenes are activated by three mechanisms. They are point mutations, chromosomal translocations, insert mutations, protein-protein interactions and gene amplification. Ras protein is an important product of proto-onco gene. Ras is one of the most important switches in the cell signaling pathway.1 There are three Ras proteins in the mammals. If any mutation occurs in the ras protein then it will result in the cell proliferation stimulation and finally apoptosis will be inhibited. Thus tumor cells will be produced. The ras mutation is one of the reasons for 30% of all the human cancer. H-ras, K-ras and N-ras mutations are found in almost all types of cancers. 1 Hence research in this field is much essential because of its importance in the carcinogenesis. Anti cancer therapy for the Ras protein is preferred in order to reduce and cure the cancer. Can anticancer therapy cure cancer? Scientific Background: McGlynn et al. (2009) looked up at the Ras/Raf-1/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and looked its role in the development and proliferation of cancer.2 They used chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer. Tamoxifen was used for the treatment. They looked up to know whether MAPK pathway has any major role in the carcinogenesis or not? Tamoxifen is an estrogen antagonist and the study was performed to check whether they can act as a target for the estrogen cancer therapy or not? For these two questions Mcglynn et al have found that Ras pathway responds very less for tamoxifen and good for chemotherapy. pRaf(ser338) is found to be the best marker with great effect for the targeted estrogen therapy. A combinati on of chemotherapy along with tamoxifen is required for the therapy. Further new researches are going on to identify small and simple molecules for the treatment of cancer. The signaling pathway molecules are considered to play a very important role in the cancer therapy. Farnesyltransferase (FTI) is an important inhibitor of small molecules. This enzyme is very important for the prenylation of Ras. Tipifarnib is one of the FTI that are used for the treatment of cancer. Here the role of tipifarnib in the Ras signaling pathway was analysed and the growth arrest and cell death related to the ERK and MAPK pathways were looked upon.3 Tipifarnib treatment was found to inhibit and sensitize the ERK and MAPK pathways. They have concluded that geranyl geranylated N-Ras or K-Ras BÂ  are sensititve to tipifarnib and interact in a different manner in the downstream signal processing at the osteosarcoma cells. This helps to maintain the balance between the cell death and proliferation. 3 The m etasatasis ability of the cells is found to be enhanced by the ras activity. The poor understanding of the Ras protein is a big draw back in the treatment of cancer. Here Varghese et al (2002) have looked up to know whether macroscopic metastases are being affected by Ras or not. They have used Green fluorescent protein-transfected NIH 3T3 and T24 H-ras-transformed (PAP2) fibroblasts in the mouse and looked for the

Mr. Mallards Story of an Hour Essay Example for Free

Mr. Mallards Story of an Hour Essay Experimental procedures where destined to be made about the emotion filled story, â€Å"The Story of an Hour† by Kate Chopin. The story details Mrs. Mallard’s situation about how she feels about her husband and the result when she finds that he is not dead. Kate Chopin does a great job telling the reader Mrs. Mallard’s feeling’s, but not at all tells the reader about Mr. Mallard’s point of view. I will be creating a point of view for Mr. Mallard to try and get a better understanding of what could have been the situation between the two. Since the very day I laid eyes on her, I knew she was the one for me. Her beautiful smile and her ecstatic personality made me come to realize that, I had to claim what was spiritually mine. Her name was Louis, a creative and ambitious young woman. All throughout my days of monitoring her every motion, I gained the courage to grow out of my shy state, and make my approach towards her. So from that point on we started engaging in conversation and growing closer to each other day after day. It seemed as if time had flown by faster than it had ever done before in my life. It came to the point that I loved this woman so much; all of my hard earned money I made from my small job down at the local grocery store in town, I took it upon myself to buy a wedding ring. So then I asked her for her hand in marriage, and ever so joyously she replied with such excitement in her voice, yes! Immediately, tears started rolling down my face and all of my best memories were erased, in storing the special memory that took place that very day. We had a simple but elegant wedding ceremony in the local chapel that she and I were both attending previously. â€Å"Mr. and Mrs. Mallard, I now pronounce you husband and wife. The moment I heard those very words, is when I knew I had accomplished my life goal at being happy. She had gone all around town screaming to her family that she is married now and that she will forever be happy for as long as she lives. I took it that we would always be united as one, and that nothing could ever come between the love we both shared. Several years went past and Louise and I seemed to be doing very well in our marriage. I had given her all of me and it seemed that she had given me all of her as well, but I would get an internal feeling that she was not happy in our marriage. Adding up reasons of why she may be unhappy with how things were going, it just did not seem to add up. It had dawned upon me that maybe she did not want to be with me anymore. Personality wise, she had become the total opposite. Before we got married she was kind, passionate, and had a smile that was golden; then she started to grow silent and mean towards me and others around her. For a while I blamed myself for reasons that seemed to be undeserving, and thought that I mistreated her in some unknown way. Unfortunately, Louise was found to have a very bad heart problem and often times she would blame me for her misfortune. As a caring man I would just accept the blame and try to do anything possible to try to make her forget about the condition and live her life fully. My plan always appeared to not succeed and I grew tired of the mistreatment that I clearly did not deserve. I took matters into my own hands and came up with a plan that would determine just how much she felt about me. I came across the daily paper and read about a local railroad disaster that left a number of people dead and injured. My good friend Richards was the side kick in the situation, I had him tell Louise’s sister, Josephine, that my name was on the death list and that she should tell Louise immediately. After receiving notice that my plan was fulfilled, I began to observe Louise’s reactions towards the situation. I hid in the main bedroom closet in a secret passage way that I created for emergency situations years ago. I heard Louise come in crying and sobbing about the news, I became excited that she was crying over my so called death and I felt that she did still love me very much. Hours went past and I became comfortable with the results that I got in my little experiment, but little did I know, Louise became happy with my death and stated that she was â€Å"free† numerous times to herself really loud and joyously. Very confused I asked myself how she switched feelings so quickly and how could she be happy about the situation. She would talk to herself very in-depth about how her life is now that she is independent and fantasizing about all of the days and years to herself that she wanted for so long. I felt so crushed inside because I had given her any and everything that she could possibly want. I took care of her when she was sick, made all of her wishes come true, and took it upon myself to do anything to make her smile. Why she would treat me this way, I asked myself over and over until I became fed up with it. When Louise went to the bathroom I snuck over to Richards’s house and told him what all I found out about and wanted to give her the news that I was not dead. Richards and I walked over back to the house to tell Louise that I was mistakenly put on the death list, and that I was indeed very much alive. I waited outside and let Richards go in the house first to make the plan free of suspicion and got ready to make my approach inside. Boom Boom! My heart was beating very loudly as I was nervous to go inside. I opened the door and Josephine is first to see me; she screams very loudly in shock of my appearance. Richards tries very hard to prevent Louise from seeing me, but was too late in the action. Louise dropped to the floor immediately and had no sign of life in her. I ran to her to see if she was ok holding her very tight, screaming for someone to call the doctor. The doctor arrived within twenty minutes, after only observing her for five minutes he pronounced her dead due to a heart attack. Tears ran down my face as if someone had poured a bucket of water on my head. I began to feel guilty for her death thinking maybe she would still be alive if I had never made that stupid plan in the first place. Thought maybe if I had known how she really felt, I would have just let her be free from me and live her life happily instead of me standing in her way. I learned a very important lesson that day; things in life should not be taken for granted no matter how much you want it to go your way.

Man of the House :: essays research papers fc

Character Analysis of The little boy from â€Å"The Man of the House† by Frank O’Connor   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The story opens with the boy, whom to this point had ignored his mothers coughs, drops everything to rush to her aid as she â€Å"collapsed into a little wicker armchair, holding her side†. (O’Connor 206) As he watched his mother struggle trying to light the fire he told her, â€Å"Go back to bed and Ill light the fire†. (206) Now to this point, as the reader, I am unsure of the age of the boy, but I get the impression that he is a young boy. My idea of this boy is that he tries to take on too much throughout the day and eventually it was the demise of the opposite sex that eventually caused the meltdown of the â€Å"awesome† little boy. This is certainly something that will happen again to this young lad but he has definitely learned his lesson this time.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The young boy while tending to his mother also did the following things to try and help her get better because of how sick she was at the time. When he made her some tea and it was a little strong he agreed with her in a manner of almost trying to be equal saying that â€Å"†Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Tis too strong,† I agreed cheerfully, remembering the patience of the saints in their many afflictions. â€Å"I’ll pour half of it out.†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ â€Å"’Tis my fault,† I said, taking the cup. â€Å"I can never remember about tea.†Ã¢â‚¬ (207) When the young boy says this I feel that he is trying to act as if he is older than he really is because he is â€Å"the man of the house† and he is taking care of his sick mother. Also, while he has been taking care of his mother, he decides not to go to school today because taking care of his mother is much more important to him than going to school. After he turns down the bus ride to school he offers to go to the store to pick up a few things that his mother might want to get but is certainly unable being laid up in bed all day. So he offer to get eggs because â€Å"â€Å"What will I get for dinner? Eggs?† As hard boiled eggs were the only dish I could manage.†(207) I believe that in this exchange he denotes his young age because all he could make is a simple kind of dish that a lot of people and young people certainly know how to prepare.

Religion: Meaning of Life and Karen Armstrong Essay

Religion should have an impact on everyone’s life. According to Karen Armstrong, without religion, people would not be able to discover their own personal reason of life with a pure reason or purpose set by any guidelines. As a result of obtaining a good foundation of faith in your religion, it will not only positively affect your life on a personal level, but the community as a whole. If we look back at human antiquity, we commonly find that people of many different religions, traditions, and cultures had one main goal of finding the meaning of peace and purity in their own â€Å"selves†. In the seventeenth century BCE, the Hindus created a book of philosophical texts called the Upanishads, holding the main idea of finding ones sacred self, or atman. This sacred book led tranquility and serenity into the everyday lives of many Hindus. According to Armstrong, the purpose of religion has been and always should be to help us live peacefully, creatively, and even joyously. Armstrong also states that by engaging in religious practices and forms of life, people can live their lives on a higher divine plane and thus discover their own true selves. Karen Armstrong believes that religion does help people to find beneficial meanings in their lives and does allow people discover their inner selves. Throughout the passage â€Å"Homo Religiosus† written by Karen Armstrong, there are many historical events coming from various cultural and religious backgrounds that support her belief in which religion does and should play a crucial part in everyone’s lives. However, not only does religion bring harmony and principle in people’s lives, but religion also aids people in finding a legitimate meaning in their life and in the world. It helps to positively strengthen the relationship between the people leading to the elimination of greed, hatred, and pride in communities. Like Confucius beliefs, the Buddhists had a state of peace of their own. Nirvana was the natural result of a life lived according to the doctrine of Buddha’s anatta. Anatta required Buddhists to live as if though the self did not exist, which led to corruption fading away. It is stated, â€Å"His (a monk’s) greed fades away, and once his cravings disappear, he experiences the release of the mind† (Miller and Spellmeyer 37). This text states that when the people  heard about annata, their hearts were occupied with joy and they immediately experienced Nirvana. As a result, people were living between each other with love, care, and ease towards one another which led to a better life style overall. The famous Confucius practice Golden Rule is also another example of religion brining peaceful meanings in ones life. Confucius, the most famous religious icon in Chinese history, clarifies the meaning behind the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule states that an individual should treat another the same way he/she would like to be treated by others. Confucius would later explain that the practice of the Golden Rule would bring people into a state of ren, which is a state of compassion and love. Although ren did bring peace and love between the people of Confucius, it is stated that it was so hard to entirely be in this state. It was stated that people had a hard time achieving a full state of ren. Nonetheless, people desired being in this pure state. Yan Hui, Confucius’s greatest student, said with a deep sigh, Yan Hui stated, â€Å"The more I strain my gaze towards it, the higher it soars. The deeper I bore down into it, the harder it becomes. I see it in front, but suddenly it is behind. Step by step, the Master skillfully lures one on. He has broadened me with culture, restrained me with ritual. Even if I wanted to stop, I could not. Just when I felt that I have exhausted every resource, something seems to rise up, standing over me sharp and clear. Yet though I long to pursue it, I can find no way of getting it all† (Miller and Spellmeyer 38). This passage explains how hard people were trying to obtain this state. Religion as defined by the mentors of great countries like India, China, and the Middle East was not something impossible, yet it was a realistic one. It was not about believing in a God or believing in a divine being. Religion was based on physical activities, disciplined work, and robust undertakings on a daily basis. Back then, religion had its real meaning of organizing ones life and basing ones life on religion. Sadly, religion has its own different inappropriate meaning nowadays. Which leads to my point of Karen Armstrong talking about how many people find the concept of God and religion so troublesome simply because they have lost sight of this important understanding. She also explains how for each separate religion, there is an ontological approach to understanding it. Many people have simply just given up on God because of self-corruption like greed, stubbornness, and impatience. In Greek mythology, it is stated, â€Å" No god can survive unless he or she is actualized by the practical activity of ritual, and people often turn against gods who fail to deliver. The rites and practices that that once made him a persuasive symbol of the sacred are no longer effective, and people have stopped participating in them. He has therefore become otiosus, an etiolated reality who for all intents and purposes has indeed died or gone away† (Miller and Spellmeyer 31). If God does not comply the peoples needs, then they will turn against this god and he/she will no longer be effective. In the passage, it is also explains how religion requires a disciplined cultivation of a different mode of consciousness. This basically means that before you perform any religious task, you must pursue ekstasis, which literally means stepping out the norm you are accustomed to. Unfortunately, nowadays people are either to lazy or lost desire to seek any religious salvation simply because many things have taking over our world like media, entertainment, sports, music etc. They pursue other means to stand outside the norm. It is like they almost feel free when they are listening to the type of music they desire, or play the type of sport they seek, or are entertained by media that they desire. Karen Armstrong proves her point â€Å" Today people who no longer find it in a religious setting resort to other outlets: music, dance, art, sex, drugs, or sport. We make a point of seeking out these experiences that touch us deep within and lift us momentarily beyond ourselves. At such times, we feel that we inhabit our humanity more fully than usual and experience an enhancement of being† (Miller and Spellmeyer 27) In conclusion, Armstrong strongly anchors her belief of religion having a positive influential affect on people’s lives, helping them find a purpose in their life, and aiding them in discovering their true selves. She has her belief backed up by many famous religious icons from different backgrounds like Buddha, Confucius, and even Greek mythology. She explained how it helps organize people’s lives, better the relationship between two people and last but not least, it helps purify a person’s whole entire life. Reassuringly, religion, does quite in fact, impacts the lives of many. Works Cited 1)Miller, Richard E. , and Kurt Spellmeyer. â€Å"Homo Religiosus. † The New humanities reader. 4th ed. The Italian Renaissance was the start of a strongly religious, cultural and artistic revolution throughout Western history, which was dominated by the catholic church. The church was seen as the highest authority due to the fact that they were literate and well educated, and seen as a safe haven to seek refuge from hell, gods punishment, and the plagues. Although the church was the heart of life during the Renaissance, it all began to change, as seen through artists such as Michelangelos painting in the Sistine chapel. Popes who are in power through association with the church were taking money from the poor and uneducated. The impact of the Roman Catholic Church on the Italian renaissance society such as art, political figures†¦show more content†¦Once the church grasped these new playings they seemingly buried what life was rightfully about and as stated â€Å"their aim was no longer a holy life...they became interested in armies, in wars against Christians.† - (P.2 6) Priests were no longer good representatives of the pope, they became corrupt and indulgences became a huge part of their plan. Sales of indulgences was an immense thing for the church. ( See Appendix D4) During the 1400s they strictly believed that for their sins they would be punished and sent to purgatory, to pay for their actions and behavior and then gain entrance to heaven. To avoid such a penalty they would feel guilty and would pay a certain expense to the church to flee away from purgatory, and go straight to heaven. They feel as if their a higher class, they are the only people who understand the bible ( See Appendix E5) arent willing to translate it, it makes them feel empowered. The church didnt fulfill its purposes, people eventually began to realize that churches religion began to go corrupt. â€Å"Roman Catholics were the largest Christian religious group† Savanorola who began to disagree and point out the famous sinners.
